We call them manhole covers but they’re really known as hatch covers and here in Seattle they’re beautiful works of art.
Back in the 1970‘s the city of Seattle started commissioning artists to design and create works of art that would be cast in metal and used as hatch covers. A recent count we came up with 115 of them spread all over the city. With camera or smart phone in hand you can photograph these beautiful and unique pieces of public art that many overlook beneath their feet.
